Shekinah glory
In the book of Exodus, God gave Moses the tablets on which were written the 10 commandments, but because he had spent so much time with the Lord on the mountain, when he came down the people, led by Aaron, had moulded a golden calf and were worshipping that as a god. Moses was so angry that he smashed the stone tablets on the ground. (Exodus 32) The Lord was angry with the ‘stiff necked’ people and said that He would not go with them.
However, Moses appealed to the Lord and then in chapter 33 v 17 the Lord spoke to Moses saying….’you have found favour in My sight and I know you by name’. So, Moses asked v 18 ‘…I pray show me your glory’. And the Lord replied ‘I will make all My goodness pass before you…..v 20 you cannot see My face for no man can see Me and live….there is a place…you must stand on the rock, v22 while My glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. …you will see My back but My face may not be seen.’
Can you imagine just being in the presence of God Himself and though Moses couldn’t see the Lord’s face he was in His presence. Moses bowed down and worshipped God In Exodus 34 v 29 . He came down from the mountain with the 2 new tablets of testimony in his hands. As he talked with the Lord his face was shining so when he came down the mountain the people were afraid to come near him. He had to cover his face with a veil. Can you imagine what this experience was like for Moses, being in the very presence of God surrounded by His glory? The presence of God is known as the Shekinah glory. The word isn’t in the bible but it describes the radiance of the glory of God.
Now in the New covenant we have the privilege of God living in us as Holy Spirit so we can be in His presence whenever we spend time focusing on Him. In 2 Corinthians 3 v 14 on describes how the veil which covered our minds was lifted through Christ but whenever anyone turns to the Lord the veil is removed.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.
2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV
So, for this to be manifested in our lives and to be in the Shekinah glory of God as Moses was we just have to turn to the Lord, accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour believing in Him and we too can delight in the presence of the most High God – El Elohim, come into His presence and worship Him as our loving heavenly Father.
