Do not fret

Do not fret

In Psalm 37 David says on 3 occasions ‘Do Not Fret’. In many places in the bible we are told ‘be anxious about nothing’ ‘Do not worry’. Over and over again we are told this in Old and New Testament. I think God is trying to tell us something. If He is telling us not to worry, it’s to put our trust completely in Him. David went through so much turmoil in his life that he had good reason to worry but at the end of the day he put his trust in......

Working together

Working together

One theme which has repeated several times at TLC last is ‘Working together’. When praying for leadership teams this was emphasised and one person said ‘iron sharpens iron’ Proverbs 27 v 17 and the verse goes on to say a friend sharpens a friend’. This came over to me very strongly that we need each other. Then Ecclesiastes 4 v 9 says ‘Two are better than one, because there is good reward for their labour together…then v 10b ‘….woe to him who is alone when he falls and has no-one to help him......

Keep on asking

Keep on asking

I’ve read a story about Howard Carter who, in 1922, discovered the long lost tomb of Tutankhamen. He found treasures there that the modern world had never seen. People had searched for over 3000 years without success. The only reason that Howard Carter succeeded was that he persevered in the face of constant opposition and he discovered these priceless treasures. Can you see the parallel with our Christian walk with God? Many times in the Word we see the words ‘Ask and you will receive’ Luke 11 v 9 NKJV, but in the......

Flowing from the Father's heart

Flowing from the Father’s heart

Seek him, receive from him, give of him, increase in him …. Repeat! As disciples of Christ and children of the Creator God, having what we need, being blessed and favoured is something we should ask for and expect [Psalm 67:1-2]. Abraham was promised blessing so that he may be a blessing to the nations; to the entire earth. As we receive from God and give of God we increase in our capacity to be generous and receptive; the parable of the talents [Matthew 25:14-30] and minas [Luke 19:12-27]. As we position ourselves......

Burning coals

Burning coals

Have you ever come across one of those scriptures where you think, ‘that just doesn’t seem to make sense’? I did this week! It’s one I’ve read loads of time before, and yet never considered what it really means. I was listening to Bill Johnson from Bethel, California, preaching on Romans 12 and he highlighted verse 20, here it is in context: Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary:......

God cares

God cares

I believe it is very important that we seek to help your people to respond with faith and not out of fear. I believe the Lord wants to speak to us concerning the present coronavirus pandemic, through the occasion of the storm on the Lake, recorded in Mark 4 v.35 – 41. Like the coronavirus “storm”, the storm on the Sea of Galilee was a serious crisis which came without warning (Matt.8 v.24) and Jesus’ disciples were overwhelmed and nearly swamped by it (Mark 4 v.37), but the Lord was with them (in......

Life in the cross

Life in the cross

A little while back our pastor said something which I find very profound. Something that most of us know, but somehow it impacted me with fresh revelation. : -‘There is life in the cross of Jesus and (spiritual) death without it.’ The scripture that came to mind with these words is John 10 v 10 ‘The thief (the devil) does not come but to kill, steal and destroy. I (Jesus) came that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly’ I imagine that most people associate the cross with......

Mark 9:14-29 describes a story of Jesus healing a boy of an impure spirit. The disciples couldn’t drive out the spirit, but Jesus did. After the event, when the disciples and Jesus were in private, they asked of him, “why could we not drive it out?” Jesus replied, “this kind can come out only by prayer [and fasting].” After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” Mark 9:28-29 NIV Prayer and fasting is a great......

Pray

Pray

Prayer is communication with our father in heaven. He created us to have fellowship with Him and praying to Him regularly means that we are in a continuous relationship with Him. Throughout the bible we are told to pray. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 ESV This just about sums it up. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray He taught them ‘the Lord’s prayer, which most of us know –......

Great in mercy

Great in mercy

When we hear the word ‘Mercy’ what do we think of? Perhaps a prisoner being pardoned by a judge and rescued from prison, or maybe letting an animal go free when it has been trapped. So, when we think of God’s mercy towards us it means ‘Not giving us what we do deserve’ whilst grace is ‘Giving us what we don’t deserve’ So, when we read Psalm 145 ‘The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies......

Righteousness

Righteousness

As we come into this busy Christmas season with everyone rushing around buying presents sending greeting cards, buying extra food for that wonderful Christmas dinner, I wonder how many people stop and think ‘What is it all about?’, ‘What are we celebrating?’. I just want to shout out and say to them ‘it’s all about Jesus, whose birthday we celebrate in a couple of weeks, who came to earth as a baby, lived for 30 years a pure and sinless life, preparing himself for the greatest sacrifice that anyone could do. After just......

Come as you are

Come as you are

We sing a song at church that never fails to touch my heart. It may pull at your heart too or maybe not, but I felt the words are worth sharing with you today. Come out of sadness from wherever you’ve been Come broken hearted let rescue begin, come find your mercy Oh sinner, come kneel Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can’t heal. So, lay down your burdens, lay down your shame All who are broken, lift up your face Oh wanderer, come home, you’re not too far So, lay down your......
