In Psalm 37 David says on 3 occasions ‘Do Not Fret’. In many places in the bible we are told ‘be anxious about nothing’ ‘Do not worry’. Over and over again we are told this in Old and New Testament. I think God is trying to tell us something. If He is telling us not to worry, it’s to put our trust completely in Him. One theme which has repeated several times at TLC last is ‘Working together’. When praying for leadership teams this was emphasised and one person said ‘iron sharpens iron’ Proverbs 27 v 17 and the verse goes on to say a friend sharpens a friend’. This came over to me very strongly that we need each other. Then Ecclesiastes 4 v 9 says ‘Two are better than one, because there is good reward for their labour together…then v 10b ‘….woe to him who is alone when he falls and has no-one to help him......
I’ve read a story about Howard Carter who, in 1922, discovered the long lost tomb of Tutankhamen. He found treasures there that the modern world had never seen. People had searched for over 3000 years without success. The only reason that Howard Carter succeeded was that he persevered in the face of constant opposition and he discovered these priceless treasures. Mark 9:14-29 describes a story of Jesus healing a boy of an impure spirit. The disciples couldn’t drive out the spirit, but Jesus did. Prayer is communication with our father in heaven. He created us to have fellowship with Him and praying to Him regularly means that we are in a continuous relationship with Him. When we hear the word ‘Mercy’ what do we think of? Perhaps a prisoner being pardoned by a judge and rescued from prison, or maybe letting an animal go free when it has been trapped.
