Keep on asking
I was reading a story this week about Howard Carter who, in 1922, discovered the long lost tomb of Tutankhamen. He found treasures there that the modern world had never seen. People had searched for over 3000 years without success. The only reason that Howard Carter succeeded was that he persevered in the face of constant opposition and he discovered these priceless treasures. Can you see the parallel with our Christian walk with God? Many times in the Word we see the words ‘Ask and you will receive’ Luke 11 v 9 NKJV, but in the Amplified version and in NLT it says ‘ask and keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking and you will find. Keep on knocking and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives, everyone who seeks finds and the door is opened to everyone who knocks’. So like Howard Carter If at first you don’t succeed then try, try, try again. Persevere, keep pressing through. Sometimes the enemy tries to block the answers to our prayer as he did with Daniel, but in Jesus we have the victory so we persevere, we don’t give up at the first hurdle.
Jesus told the story of the persistent woman and persisting with her pleas until the judge finally gave in. If we believe that God answers prayer and if we pray in the powerful name of Jesus then we will have what we ask for. In Luke 11 v 13 Jesus particularly relates this to the Holy Spirit.
Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[f] a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
Luke 11:11-13 NIV
So if you are praying for something, no matter what it is, for unbelievers, finances, wisdom, health, don’t give up. Our heavenly Father longs to hear our voices communicating with Him and asking Him for help in any area of our lives. Don’t let the enemy succeed by giving up. Ask and keep on asking and you will receive the blessings of our Father in heaven. Jesus repeats this ‘keeping on’ 6 times in Luke 11 verses 9 and 10, so it must be pretty important to do as He says.`
