Set a fire

Do you have days when you feel dried up, lacking inspiration, empty, in a desert place? I think we all do from time to time. But this morning as we (TLC) worshipped the words of the song ‘Set a Fire’ lifted me up and as I listened to the words, and sang, I realised how true they are. ‘Set a fire within my soul, that I can’t contain, that I can’t control, – I want more of you God’. You know God understands when we feel like that and He has already provided the answer!

When Jesus ascended into heaven He left behind His Holy Spirit to live in us so all we have to do is ask Holy Spirit to set a fire in us to burn brightly in our hearts and then our love, our joy, our peace, in fact all that God has provided for us can come to the surface and overrule the dryness within us. ‘I want more of you God’ If we can just let go of whatever caused us to feel uninspired and dry, God is able and willing to help us to be overcomers.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23:2-4 NIV

Just think of the beautiful words in Psalm 23 ‘He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul’. It is said that there are words in the Bible to cover every situation and if we believe that and go into the Word of God we will find something to help us to walk through our current situation.

‘He leads me in paths of righteousness for His names sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil’. Doesn’t that answer the question? Our Father is in every situation and He alone can lead us through it, through that shadow of death. He alone will comfort us. So, yes Lord, set a fire within my soul that I can’t contain, that I can’t control and let Holy Spirit lead me out of the wilderness that I was in. Jesus left that precious gift of Holy Spirit when He went back to heaven. He didn’t leave us abandoned. We always have Holy Spirit who is available to comfort us, to bring joy back into our lives and to strengthen us to deal with whatever we have to face.
