Recently I was reading a story about Corrie Ten Boom when she was a little girl. (She was a Dutch Christian who helped Jews escape from the Nazis In the second world war). She said to her father ‘Daddy I don’t think I will ever be strong enough to serve Jesus Christ’. And her father replied ‘when you want to go on a train do I buy a ticket weeks in advance? No I get it when you are ready to depart’. Maybe we can all learn a little from this story.
We pray to God asking Him to deal with something, to give us strength, to give us wisdom and discernment, to give us the power to lay hands on people that they will be healed. Do we think God will give us those answers, those gifts way ahead of time? He may seem to leave it till the last minute but then He comes up with just what we need when we need it. I honestly don’t think we could cope with all the answers to our prayers immediately.
Once we ask our heavenly father we need to believe that He will answer our prayer.
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
1 John 5 v 14-15 ESV
We may have to wait for a long time but if it is in God’s will then we have to be patient, believing and standing in faith that the answer will come at the right time, not a moment too late. In other words, be patient, trust in Him to do the right thing, believe that because He loves us and cares for us He will provide for us as our loving heavenly Father, just as an earthly father provides for his children.
He is Jehovah Nissi – The Lord our banner, our victory. Moses in Exodus 17 gave the Lord this name when He led them to victory against the Amelekites. They were under the Lords banner, under His protection. So when we are in need of something we pray, we trust that if it’s in His will and purposes for our lives and we stand in faith believing that He will answer in His time, even if it’s at the last minute.
